Oct. 3, 2006

MONTGOMERY, Ala- Tim Cole scored a pair of goals to lead the Huntingdon men's soccer team to its first shutout of the season, a 4-0 victory over LaGrange Tuesday afternoon at the Huntingdon Soccer Field.

The Hawks improved to 2-9-1 and 2-2 in GSAC play. The Panthers fell to 1-7 overall, dropping their seventh straight game of the season, and 0-4 in conference play.

Jack Vibbert put the Hawks on the board in the first half on a penalty kick goal with 27:26 remaining. Vibbert's first attempt was stopped by junior goalkeeper Jason Baker, but game officials ordered a re-kick after Baker was moving out of the box prior to the save. Vibbert then took his second attempt deep into the back right corner of the net to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Cole, who has scored all four of his goals this season against LaGrange, pushed the Huntingdon lead to 3-0 with consecutive goals only five minutes apart from each other. On the first goal, he netted a header on a pass from Chris Saba, and slammed in the second on a deflected pass from Christian Harmon.

The Hawks added a fourth goal in the second half when Andrew McNamara took a pass from Saba and delivered the ball into the back right corner of the net for his first goal of the season.

Saba, who finished the day with two assists, chipped in a pair of shots. Hawks goalkeeper Jarryd Keene stopped three shots in goal to pick up his first career shutout.
