Panthers celebrate Senior Day by blanking Toccoa Falls Oct. 20, 2007
LaGrange College picked up its second win in three games, blanking Toccoa Falls 2-0 at Panther Field on Saturday. The Panthers (3-11) got goals from Rhett Fordham and Jamel Jackson and limited the Eagles (8-11-1) to just one shot on goal.
The Panthers celebrated Senior Day before the game. Jase Crenshaw, Kojo Cole-Kesse, Ryan Snider and Patrick Kaney were honored in pre-game ceremonies.
The Panthers had a 19-5 shot advantage in the game, but only five shots on goal. Toccoa had an 8-5 edge in corner kicks but could not capitalize on the opportunities.
LaGrange got its first goal in the 36th minute of the first half. Daniel Yim sent a through ball down the center of the field to Fordham, who beat Toccoa goalkeeper Travis Julian for the goal and a 1-0 lead. It was Fordham's team-leading sixth goal of the season.
The Panthers maintained the lead into the second half. They got an insurance goal from Jackson for the 2-0 final margin. Jackson scored off a rebound after Julian could not secure the bal. It was Jackson's third goal of the season.
Toccoa's best scoring opportunity came early in the second half. Panther goalkeeper Ben Rollins turned away Jonathan Yang's shot from the right side to preserve the shutout. The Eagles did not get another shot on the goal the rest of the game.
The Panthers close out the regular season at Maryville College on Thursday.
