Southern Polytechnic shuts down Panthers in 3-0 win Oct. 4, 2007
Southern Polytechnic blanked LaGrange College 3-0 on Thursday night at Panther Field. It was the third straight loss for the Panthers, now 1-9. The Hornets upped their season record to 5-6-2 with the win.
The Hornets were led by Mamadou Danso. Danso scored two of the three goals and helped the Hornets keep pressure on the Panther defense in the game. The Hornets held a 23-7 shot advantage in the game. Panther goalkeeper Ben Rollins had seven saves in the game. Eri Ati and Ryan Black combined for the shutout for the Hornets, with three saves in the game.
The Hornets pressured the Panthers from the opening kickoff. The Hornets' Dustin Harrison had a breakaway in the opening minutes but Panther defender Steve Vitale was able to knock the ball away to stop the threat.
Southern Poly played most of the first half on the Panthers' side of the midfield stripe. Momadou broke the scoreless game in the 33rd minute with his first goal off an assist from Harrison. The Hornets led 1-0 at halftime.
The Panthers' best scoring chance came on a direct kick. Vitale shot from the top of the box, only to have Ati make the save to turn away the Panthers.
The Hornets broke the game open in the first five minutes of the second half. Harrison scored less than two minutes into the half and Danso followed with his second goal for the final 3-0 margin.
The Panthers host Tennessee Wesleyan in a non-conference game Saturday at 7 p.m.
