Scots advance to GSAC Finals; Defeat LaGrange 5-0

Nov. 4, 2006
The LaGrange College men's soccer team ended its season with a 5-0 shutout loss to Maryville College in the GSAC semifinals on Friday.  The Panthers ended their season at 1-14.  The Scots used five different players to score a goal and improved their record to 13-5.

The Scots used a 16 shot offensive attack and did not allow the Panthers to take a shot on goal the entire contest.  Maryville used three goalkeepers to share the defensive shutout, its 11th of the season and has allowed
only five goals during its last 13 games.

The Scots began their scoring when Evan Giordano and G.T. Podgorski assisted in Drew Davenport's goal. Joe McGroom used a Daniel Gomez pass to hit the net to put the Scots up 2-0 at the end of the first half.

Zak Peterson recorded Maryville's third goal unassisted with 20 minutes left in the match.  Jeremy Johnson assisted in the Scots' fourth goal when he helped Giordano hit the net.  Maryville finished its scoring when Gabe Turner took a Mitchell Gray pass to the net.

The Scots will challenge Piedmont College at 4 p.m. on Saturday for the Great South Athletic Conference Championship.
