Maryville rallies to edge Panthers in GSAC semifinals Nov. 2, 2007
DEMOREST, Ga. LaGrange College forced top-seeded Maryville College to rally for a 2-1 win in the semifinals of the GSAC Championship Tournament on Friday at Piedmont College. The Panthers ended their season at 3-13, while the Fighting Scots improve to 11-5-1.
Maryville had won both regular season meetings with the Panthers. The Fighting Scots won 3-0 in LaGrange on Sept. 29 and 4-0 in Maryville on Oct. 25.
Despite being outshot 12-2 in the first half, the Panthers led 1-0 at halftime. Rhett Fordham scored in the 36th minute of the half for the Panthers. It was Fordham's team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Maryville rallied in the second half. Joe McGroom tied the game in the 54th minute. Daniel Gomez got the game-winner in the 75th minute.
The Fighting Scots finished with a 23-4 shots advantage. Panther goalkeeper Ben Rollins had five saves in the game.
