Tigers shut out LaGrange, 6-0

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va.- Hampden Sydney's soccer team dominated play against LaGrange College in a 6-0 win Friday. The Panthers held Hampden-Sydney to two goals in the first half but the Tigers exploded in the second half for four goals.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 9-3-2 on the season. LaGrange drops to 1-10 overall.
Only three minutes into the game, senior captain Greg Smith found the back of the net for the Tigers with assists from David Burley and Greg Danahy. Sophomore Ian Ciejek added to the Tiger lead, scoring off an assist from Robert Beasley and Craig Miller.
In the second half, Burley scored two consecutive goals for the Tigers, one of those assisted by Smith. Sophomore Robert Baybutt and junior Kris Barnes rounded out the scoring for the Tigers. Baybutt's goal was assisted by Miller, and Barnes' goal was assisted by Daniel Mutispaugh and James Bishop.
The Panthers had several opportunities to score, but the Tiger's defense stopped every shot took by the Panthers. It was the Tigers' sixth shutout of the season. Hampden-Sydney out shot the Panthers by a 28-6 margin.
LaGrange returns to action on the road against Oglethorpe on Tuesday, Oct. 17. The game is scheduled to start at 3 pm.
