Panthers fall in overtime to Huntingdon

Sept. 12, 2006

The LaGrange College men's soccer team lost another heartbreaker, falling  to Huntingdon 3-2 in overtime Tuesday night at Panther Field. It was the GSAC opener for both teams.

The Panthers, who fell to 1-2 overall, were defeated in the 95th minute in overtime. Tim Cole made a  tough shot in the box that went in the back of the net to end the game.  It was his second goal of the night.

It was a game of defense and incredible save opportunities for goalkeeper Jason Baker and the Panthers. In the end, the Panthers could not handle the offensive barrage of shots taken by the Hawks.
The Hawks struck first in the 35th minute, on a goal by Bradleigh Lane. He beat the defender to the box as the Hawks took a 1-0 lead at halftime.

The Panthers offensive attack came alive in the second half. Wes Morton scored his first goal of the

season off a deflection to tie the game at 1-1. Zak Turner anchored the defense all night, coming up with several game-saving stops in the box around the net to keep the game in reach. After Cole's first goal of the night put the Hawks up 2-1, Turner scored off a free kick from Morton. The goal sent the game into overtime.

Baker finished the contest with a season-high 14 saves for LaGrange. The Hawks (1-3-1) out shot the Panthers 30-15.

The Panthers travel to Piedmont College on Sept. 19 for a GSAC game. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
