Panthers fall to Averett Sept. 9, 2007
DANVILLE, Va.- Averett University built a large halftime lead and went on to a 4-2 win over LaGrange College on Sunday. It was the first win for the Cougars (1-2), while the Panthers are winless after three games.
The Panthers enjoyed a 28-12 shot advantage in the game. Averett goalkeepers Ben Phelps and Joe Dusewicz combined for 12 saves. Ben Rollins had four saves for the Panthers.
Jeff Imgrund got Averett's first goal on a penalty kick 16 minutes into the game. The Cougars' next two goals came off corner kicks. Blaine Manual and John Bowman scored as Patrick Hughes got the assist on both goals. The Cougars extended their lead to 4-0 on an unassisted goal by Stanley Abada.
The Panthers came back in the second half. They outshot Averett 18-4 in the half, forcing 10 saves in goal. Freshman Rhett Fordham got the Panthers' first score of the season in the 76th minute with an assist from Mohamed Seesay. The Panthers drew closer 10 minutes later as senior Kojo Cole-Kesse scored on a penalty kick to make it 4-2.
The Panthers open their home schedule Sunday against Millsaps. Kickoff is 2 p.m.
