Willis' top 10 finish leads Panthers at Tom O'Briant Memorial Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The LaGrange College golf team finished 11th at the Tom O'Briant Memorial Tournament hosted by Guilford College. The two-day tournament was played on the par-71, 6,942-yard layout  at the Greensboro Country Club.

Junior Ryan Willis led the Panthers with his second straight fall top-10 individual finish. Willis finished ninth with rounds of 71-74 for a three-over-par total of 145. Willis was third at the Greensboro invitational last week.

Anthony Yacovazzi followed Willis with rounds of 78-74 for a total of 152. Alex Elorriaga had rounds of 79-75 for a total of 154. Ryan Howard (77-78-155) and Tony Kim (80-81-161) rounded out the rest of the scoring for the Panthers.

The tournament featured six of NCAA Division III's top-25 teams, according to the Sept. 19 Golf World/NIKE Golf Division III Coaches poll, including three of the top-four squads. Ten of Division III's last 14 national champions were in the field. Second-ranked Methodist, third-ranked Oglethorpe and fourth-ranked Guilford made this one of Division III's top fall tournaments. Emory, which shared fourth in the O'Briant, is ranked 11th in the poll.

The Panthers go to Rome, Ga. for the Berry Invitational on Oct. 15-16.
