March 25, 2007

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The LaGrange College golf team had a strong performance at the Jekyll Island Invitational. The Panthers finished fourth in the team standings and had two golfers make the all-tournament team.

Methodist, the top-ranked team in NCAA Division III, won the tournament. Tournament host Oglethorpe was second, Huntingdon third, the Panthers and Illinois Wesleyan rounded out the top five.

"It'll do nothing but help us," Coach Lee Richter said. "Our guys played really well against the best in the country."

Sophomore Freddy Uribe made his third all-tournament team this spring. He had rounds of 74-72-74 for a total of 220, which tied him for 10th in the individual standings. Joining him on the all-tournament team was Ryan Willis. Willis had rounds of 75-70-75 for a total of 220 also. Willis' second round score of 70 was the team's lowest in the tournament.

The rest of the Panthers' scores were: Anthony Yacovazzi (73-75-77=225), Bo Tiller (73-77-83=233) and Alex Eloriagga (80-82-78=240).

The Panthers close out their spring schedule at the Emory Invitational on April 7-9 at Stone Mountain.
