Panthers rally to finish seventh at Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational Oct. 16, 2007
ROME, Ga. - LaGrange College's golf team rallied in the final round to finish seventh at the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational. The tournament, hosted by Berry College, was played on the par-72 Coosa Country Club.
The Panthers started the second and final round in 14th place after a first round score of 309. The Panthers shot a final round 288 to move up in the standings. The Panthers' final round score was the third best turned in by any of the 24-team field.
The Panthers and Piedmont College were the only NCAA Division III schools in the tournament. The rest of the field was made up NAIA schools. Oklahoma Christian won the tournament with tournament host Berry finishing second.
Sophomore Bo Tiller paced the Panthers in his first tournament of the fall. Tiller shot a final round 70 after a first day round of 77 for a 3-over-par 147 total. Tiller's 70 was the low round of the tournament for the Panthers.
Anthony Yacovazzi and Ryan Howard followed Tiller with two-day totals of 150. Yacovazzi had rounds of 79-71, while Howard had rounds of 77-73. Ryan Willis and Alex Elorriaga both had totals of 152 to close out the Panthers' scoring. Willis had rounds of 78-74 and Elorriaga had rounds of 77-75.
The Panthers close out the fall schedule on Oct. 22-23 at the Oglethorpe Royal Lakes Fall Invitational . The tournament is held at the Royal Lakes golf course in Gainesville, Ga. The tournament will feature five of the top-10 teams and 10 of the top 30 in NCAA Division III.
