Panthers finish seventh at rain shortened Chick-Fil-A tournament Oct. 17, 2006
ROME, Ga. - The LaGrange College golf team finished tied for seventh at the rain-shortened Chick-Fil-A Tournament hosted by Berry College at the Coosa Country Club. Rain washed out Tuesday's final round, leaving first round leader Oklahoma Christian the tournament winner.
The Panthers had a first round of 303, 11 shots back of Oklahoma Christian. Mobile followed one shot back, then Lee (297), while Berry and Thomas (299) tied for fourth. The Panthers, Huntingdon and Piedmont were the only NCAA Division III schools in the 21-team tournament. Huntingdon finished with a 310 for 12th, while Piedmont was 21st with a round of 324.
"We played a pretty solid round on Monday despite the conditions," head coach Lee Richter said. "The scores reflected it but the guys played hard in cold, rainy conditions."
Sophomore Alex Elorriaga led the Panthers with a round of 74. The tournament was his first of the fall season. Elorriaga tied for 11th in the final individual standings. Panupat Kuahnun had a 75, Freddy Uribe and Anthony Yacovazzi had 77's and Ryan Willis had a 79 for the Panthers' scoring.
The Panthers close out their fall season at the Oglethorpe Invitational on Oct. 30-31 at the Royal Lakes Golf Course in Gainesville, Ga. The Panthers are ranked sixth in the Golfstat NCAA Division III rankings.
