Panthers post solid fifth-place finish at Jekyll Island tournament

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – LaGrange had a solid showing at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational held at the par-72 Oleander Course. The Panthers finished fifth in the 26-team field.

The tournament featured six of the top 10 teams and 14 in the top 25 in NCAA Division III. Top-ranked Methodist won the tournament, followed by Huntingdon, tournament host Oglethorpe, Illinois Wesleyan and LaGrange.

"We played well and I'll take a top five finish all day long in a tournament with this many good teams," Panther head coach Lee Richter said. "We beat a lot of teams we needed to beat."

Anthony Yacovazzi led the Panthers in the individual standings. Yacovazzi tied for 18th overall. He had rounds of 79-73-73 for a 9-over total of 225. Ryan Willis was two shots back of Yacovazzi with a 227 total. Willis had the Panthers' low round of the tournament with a second round 70. Bo Tiller followed with a 228 total. Tiller had the Panthers' low round in the first round with a 71. Ryan Howard followed Tiller with a 229 total, with a second-round 73 his low round of the tournament. Alex Elorriaga finished with a total of 238 for the tournament.

The Panthers close out their spring schedule with the Emory Invitational at Stone Mountain Park on April 7-8.
