ROME, Ga. – The LaGrange College golf team is fifth after the first round of the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational. The Panthers had a team score of two-over par 290 over the par-72 Coosa Country Club course Monday.

The Panthers along with fellow GSAC member Piedmont are the only two NCAA Division III schools in the 19-team field. The University of the Cumberlands leads William Carey by five shots after a first round 281. Thomas University and Lee are the third and fourth, followed by the Panthers.

The Panthers were led by a freshman in the first round. Freshman Hunter Keener shot a three-under par 69. He is tied for fifth in the individual standings, just one shot back of the leaders.

Keener's older brother, Hudson, and Bo Tiller both shot one-under par 71s. John Lee Richter posted a 79 and Adam Garrett an 81. Brian Moore, playing as an individual, is tied for 12th after shooting a two-under par 70. Shiloh Snow is also playing as an individual and shot a 79.
