Panthers finish fifth at Greensboro Invitational
Sept. 30, 2008

It wasn¹t the finish they were hoping for, but taking fifth place was an impressive enough performance for the LaGrange College Panthers. In their first golf tournament of the season, the Panthers finished fifth in the 16-team Greensboro Invitational at the Bryan Park Champion Course in Greensboro, N.C.

The tournament featured most of the top teams in NCAA Division III.
The Panthers were in third place, just four strokes off the pace after the first round, but they fell back a bit on Day 2.

"We just didn¹t play that well. I didn¹t see them make a put all day," LaGrange College coach Lee Richter said.

The Panthers shot a 305 on Tuesday, one day after shooting a 295 to charge into contention.
On Day 2, the Panthers were led by Anthony Yacovazzi and Ryan Willis, each of whom shot a 75. Bo Tiller shot a 77, and Tony Kim rounded out the scoring with a 78. Adam Garrett, a sophomore from Troup High, shot an 80.

Considering the Panthers weren¹t at their best, Richter thought the high finish was especially encouraging.

"To finish fifth and not have our A game, that speaks well for us," Richter said.  "We have to work on putting two good rounds together."

The Panthers will compete in the Berry Invitational at Coosa Country Club in Rome next week.
