2008 team captains announced

LaGrange College head coach Todd Mooney has announced the captains for the 2008 season. Senior Erik Hardison, juniors Tripp Duke, Richard Okpani and Jeremy Pickens will serve as the team's captains for the upcoming season.

Hardison, a psychology major from Macon, Ga., has been named a captain for the third straight year. He received the Philip R. Williamson Commitment Award for excellence on and off the field for the second straight year after last season. Last season, he led team with 39 receptions for 383 yards and had two touchdown receptions at the H-back position.

 

Duke, a tight end from Griffin, Ga., participated in a NCAA-student leadership conference earlier this year. He has started in his last 16 games. Last season, Duke had seven receptions for 41 yards.

 

Okpani will serve as a team captain for the second straight year. He has started all 20 games in the last two seasons. Okpani was third on the team in tackles; recording 63 total tackles that included 39 solo tackles. He had nine tackles for loss and a quarterback sack, while forcing three fumbles and recovering two fumbles.

 

Pickens, a pre-engineering major from Deltona, Fla., is also serving as a team captain for the second straight season.  He started in all nine games he played in last season. Pickens, a safety, was second on the team with 67 total tackles and led the team with 45 solo tackles.
