Panthers receive NCAA at-large bid Nov. 16, 2008
In only their third year as a program and a day after winning the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the LaGrange College Panthers received an at-large bid Sunday to the NCAA Division III Football Championship. LaGrange will travel to Jackson, Miss., to face Millsaps College next Saturday. Kickoff is at noon CST. The Panthers finished the regular season with a 9-1 overall record and a perfect 7-0 record in the SLIAC. It is a remarkable turnaround for a team that did not win a game in its first two seasons of play. "To say we're excited to be invited to the national playoffs is an understatement, to say the least," head coach Todd Mooney said. "This bid is a testament to the hard work and dedication of an outstanding group of players and coaching staff and the fantastic support of a great institution. I'm so happy for our players. "We are thankful to the selection committee for recognizing the team's season and allowing us to compete in a national playoff." Millsaps is 10-0 and currently ranked fifth in the American Football Coaches Division III Top 25 poll and fourth in the D3football.com Top 25 poll. The Majors won the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship and were one of 23 automatic qualifiers for the national playoffs. The Panthers ended the regular season Saturday with a 27-17 win over Huntingdon College for the SLIAC championship. They go into this week's contest with an eight-game winning streak. Photo Gallery
