Panthers announce team players of the week for Maryville game Sept. 4, 2007
LaGrange College head football coach Todd Mooney announced the team players of the week the week ending Sept. 2. The players of the week are: Mario Wallace, offense; Justin Strickland, defense; Josh Stripling, special teams; Brad Burchett, scout team offense and J.J. Brown, scout team defense.
Wallace, a sophomore, became the first LaGrange running back to rush for 100 yards in a game. Against Maryville, he finished with 107 yards on 13 carries. Wallace also had a run of 77 yards in the game, the longest play from scrimmage by a Panther to this point. He finished the game with 279 all-purpose yards, the most by a Panther in a game.
Strickland, a sophomore, made his first collegiate start at linebacker. He finished the game with a team-high seven total tackles. Strickland had 2-1/2 tackles for losses and a quarterback sack included in his totals. He led a defense that limited Maryville to 198 yards of total offense.
Stripling, a freshman, handled the place kicking duties in his first collegiate game. He accounted for the Panthers' scoring in the game, a 24-yard field goal that was his only attempt in the game.
