Panthers finish second season on the road at Kentucky Wesleyan

This Week's Opponent
The Panthers close out their second season of football against the NCAA Division II Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers in Owensboro, Ky. Kentucky Wesleyan comes into the game with a 2-7 record after a 28-21 loss to Central State last week. Wesleyan was 0-10 last season. Wesleyan has defeated Kentucky Christian 47-0 and Lincoln (Mo.) 35-13 for its two wins this season. Wesleyan competes in the Great Lakes Football Conference.

Series Notes
This is the first meeting between the two schools.

The Coaches
Brent Holsclaw is in his fifth season at Kentucky Wesleyan. He is 10-40 overall. 

LaGrange's Todd Mooney is 0-19 in his second season as a head coach.

Last Week's Recap
Kentucky Wesleyan fell 28-21 to Central State in a Great Lakes Football Conference game in Owensboro. Central State's Derrick Moss ran for 226 yards and two touchdowns. Central State finished the game with 420 yards rushing, while holding Wesleyan to 26 yards on the ground. Wesleyan quarterback Chris Owen threw for 196 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Josh Smith caught both of Owens' touchdown passes and had 65 yards receiving on three receptions.
Huntingdon spoiled LaGrange's Homecoming with a 43-0 win. Huntingdon quarterback Zach Golson threw for 223 yards and three touchdowns. Huntingdon had 459 yards of total offense. The Panthers were held to 16 yards rushing and 161 yards of total offense. Brandon Crawford led the Panthers with 51 yards rushing.

Kentucky Wesleyan Statistics
Wesleyan is averaging 26.3 points per game in nine games. The Panthers are averaging over 250 yards per game passing. Owens has thrown for 1,319 yards and eight touchdowns.DaMarcus Ganaway leads the team with 42 receptions for 556 and two touchdowns. Smith is second on the team with 39 receptions for 521 yards and five touchdowns.

LaGrange Statistics
Sophomore running back Mario Wallace is 26th in all-purpose yards per game in the latest NCAA Division III statistics. Wallace is averaging 162.2 all-purpose yards per game. He had a season-high 281 yards against Washington (Mo.) University.

Kentucky Wesleyan Defensive Leaders
Senior defensive lineman Clay Durham leads Wesleyan with 68 total tackles. Senior defensive lineman Alex Temple and junior defensive back Greg Embers have 12 tackles for losses each.

LaGrange Defensive Leaders
Sophomore defensive back Jeremy Pickens leads the Panthers with 67 total tackles. Junior linebacker Justin Pair is tied for the team with 3.5 quarterback sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss. George Okpani is tied with Pair for quarterback sacks, while Alex Sapp is tied with Pair for tackles for loss.

2008 Tentative Schedule
The Panthers are in their last year as an independent in NCAA Division III. Next season, the Panthers join the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as a football-only affiliate.
