Render heads Panthers named to inaugural GABCA all-state teams March 5, 2008
LaGrange College senior Demetris Render has added another award to his resume. The Georgia Basketball Coaches Association (GABCA) has named Render to it its inaugural NCAA Division III All-State team announced Tuesday. The GABCA is in its first year of existence as an association of college basketball coaches with the intent of promoting small college basketball in the Peach state.
Joining Render on the team as honorable mention selections are junior Joe Cromwell and sophomore Caleb Smallwood. LaGrange had six earn All-State Academic honors: Deji Adako, Landon Baize, Cromwell, Britt Gaylor, Render and Nic Whitfield.
Render was a four-year letterman as a post player for the Panthers and was an All-GSAC selection. This season, he started all 25 games for the Panthers. Render led the team in scoring and rebounding. He scored in double figures in all 25 games and had eight double-doubles this season. Render averaged 21.6 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game. He was second in the GSAC and is 26th in NCAA Division III in scoring. Render was third in the GSAC in rebounding. Render had 1,573 career points and 541 career-rebounds. He is eighth on the Panthers' all-time career scoring list. Render is second on the Panthers' all-time free throws made list with 494. He is 10th on the Panthers' all-time career list for field goals with 531.
Cromwell was also an All-GSAC selection for the Panthers. He was second on the team and fifth in the GSAC in scoring, averaging 15.2 points per game. He was second on the team and fourth in the GSAC in rebounding, averaging 5.4 per game. Smallwood averaged 11.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game for the Panthers. He appeared in all 25 games, starting 13.
