Sims heads GSAC baseball award winners

LaGrange senior outfielder Michael Sims is the 2008 Great South Athletic Conference Player of the Year. Sims received the award during ceremonies at the GSAC Championship Tournament held at Cleaveland Field last weekend. Seniors Cory Matticola and Seth Tucker along with junior Patrick Langley joined Sims on the GSAC All-Conference team.

Piedmont comes back to claim GSAC Championship Tournament

Piedmont came from behind twice to defeat LaGrange 12-9 in the deciding game of the GSAC Championship Tournament on Sunday at Cleaveland Field. The top-seeded and 11th-ranked Lions (33-10) had forced the final game with a 9-7 win over the Panthers in the day's first game.

Panthers reach GSAC championship with 6-5 win over Piedmont

LaGrange advanced to the championship game of the GSAC Championship Tournament with a 6-5 win over 11th-ranked Piedmont on Saturday at Cleaveland Field. The win was the second straight in the tournament and fourth overall for the Panthers, now 25-17. The Lions, the GSAC regular season champ and the tournament's top seed dropped to 30-10.

Panthers celebrate Senior Night by edging Atlanta Christian

LaGrange built an early lead and held on for an 8-7 win over Atlanta Christian on Senior Night at Cleaveland Field on Tuesday. The Panthers closed out the regular season with a 23-17 record. The Chargers fell to 14-33 on the season. Nine LaGrange seniors were honored in pre-game ceremonies.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – LaGrange got timely defensive plays and hits to down N.C. Wesleyan 3-1 on Tuesday at Bauer Field. It was the first of a two-game series between the Panthers and the 23rd-ranked Battling Bishops. Wesleyan (21-8-1) outhit the Panthers (15-11) 11-6 in the game and left nine runners on in the game. The Panthers turned three double plays in the game and committed only one error.

LaGrange made an incredible comeback for an improbable 18-17 win over Edgewood on Saturday at Cleaveland Field. The win gave the Panthers (9-8) a sweep of the two-game series against the Eagles (2-7). LaGrange scored 12 runs in the seventh inning to tie the game and won it in the ninth on Patrick Langley's bases loaded single. The Panthers have scored 106 runs in winning five of their last six games.

Game time is 6 p.m. This is the third straight time the Panthers have opened the season with the Stormy Petrels. Oglethorpe won last year 10-7at Cleaveland Field. The Panthers won 4-2 in the 2006 season opener, also at Cleaveland Field.
