Panthers finish sweep of Case Western with 17-3 win March 9, 2008
Seth Tucker tied a career-high with five RBIs to lead LaGrange to a 17-3 win over Case Western Reserve on Sunday at Cleaveland Field. The Panthers (6-7) completed a sweep of the two-game weekend series against the Spartans (1-2).
LaGrange banged out 18 hits off four different pitchers. In the two games, the Panthers scored 47 runs and had 44 hits. Tucker had two doubles included in his three hits. Blake Allen also had three hits, while Patrick Langley had three RBIs. Ten different Panthers had hits in the game.
Eric Medlock (1-1) made his first start of the season for the Panthers after six relief appearances. Medlock allowed an unearned run in six innings. He gave up only three hits, did not walk a batter and struck out five. Seth Harris allowed two unearned runs in two innings of work. Curt Ellison closed out the game by retiring the Spartans in order in the ninth.
LaGrange scored in each of the first four innings to build a 15-0 lead. The Panthers opened the game with three runs in the first and four more in the second. In the fourth, the Panthers scored seven runs to break the game wide open. Tucker had a two-run double in the fourth, while Brandon Mahoney added a run-scoring double.
Case Western had four errors in the game, leading to six unearned runs. Simon Weaver (0-1) took the loss for the Spartan. He pitched two innings, allowing seven runs, only one earned. Zach Fry followed Weaver and allowed eight runs in two innings. Devin Dye pitched two scoreless innings and Tim Coan allowed two runs in two innings.
The Panthers host Shenandoah on Monday in the first of a two-game series. Game time is 4 p.m. Monday and 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
