Sunny Gables Alumni House
Built by Mary and Julia Nix in 1925, Sunny Gables offers an outstanding example of early 20th century Tudor Revival architecture. The home was designed by Atlanta Fox Theatre architect P. Thornton Marye and is part of the National Register of Historic Places’ Vernon Road Historic District. Now known as Sunny Gables Alumni House, the facility provides a real and symbolic home for generations of LaGrange College alumni—capturing a part of the College’s historic past and carrying it forward into the future.
Mission of the Alumni House
This multipurpose facility serves as the permanent home for alumni, as well as for the offices of Alumni and Family Relations and Development. The facility extends entertainment space to LaGrange College constituents for programming purposes consistent with the College’s Strategic Plan and Mission Statement.
Guidelines for use of the Alumni House
For the protection of the historic 78-year-old house and its furnishings, many of which are irreplaceable antiques, certain policies for usage have been established. So that Sunny Gables may continue to serve for years to come, the College, on behalf of the Alumni Association, requires that all guests agree to adhere to the stipulations outlined below.
Sunny Gables is ideal for small receptions, dinners, luncheons or meetings. However, the delicate interior of the house makes it unsuitable for dances and musical performances.
The use of Sunny Gables is restricted to College functions and to a certain limited number of personal and private functions held by alumni, Trustees, Leadership Council members, faculty and staff of the College. Alumni of the College are those who have completed at least two semesters or three quarters of study at LaGrange College. Functions may be scheduled by the following in order of priority:
| 1 |
The President’s Office |
| 2 |
The Alumni Association |
| 3 |
College Vice Presidents on behalf of their corresponding Divisions |
| 4 |
LaGrange College Alumni, Trustees, Leadership Council members, Faculty and Staff for personal or private functions |
Upon the approval of the academic year by the Cabinet, the Events Coordinator will be responsible for reserving all dates required for the President’s Office, Alumni Association and Advancement Division during the coming academic year within 10 days.
All other events will be scheduled no more than six months (180 days) in advance.
The Alumni Association reserves the right, on rare occasions, to cancel any event or room reservation scheduled in the Alumni House up to ninety (90) days prior to the event date if the facility is needed for President’s Office, Alumni Association or Advancement Division events. The Alumni Association owes no further obligations to the reserving individual, department or organization.
