The LaGrange College Ring
Recognizing the academic, social and spiritual accomplishments of its graduates, the LaGrange College Alumni Association, The LC Bookstore, and the Student Government Association presents the LaGrange College class ring to each graduating student during their graduation year. This tradition began with the Class of 2002.
The ring illustrates a design deep in symbolism as well as tradition. The gold is symbolic of the purity of a metal refined by fire, just as graduates have been refined by the fire of academics and loyalty to friends, family and God. The ring features the seal of the College which contains the date of the College's founding,1831, along with a globe representing an expansion of knowledge. The seal also includes the motto, which has guided the College since 1916: "Major animi est voluptas quam corporis." Translated from Latin, this means, "The pleasures of the mind exceed the pleasures of the body."
Constructed in 1842, the columns of Smith Hall - affectionately known as "Matthew, Mark, Luke and John" - symbolize the transition of higher education at one location. Smith Hall is one of the oldest private college buildings in Georgia. "LC" are the initials by which the College is affectionately known.
Graduates of LaGrange College wear their ring with pride and remember their days as a student at LaGrange College.
