Distinguished Service Alumni Award

The Distinguished Service Alumni award is presented annually at commencement by the LaGrange College Alumni Association to outstanding alumni. It honors continuous, devoted service to, and support of, LaGrange College.

Recipients are former college students who have distinguished themselves in their social, civic, professional or business careers in such a way as to reflect honor on their Alma Mater. Important criteria in the selection process are the alumnus's activities and involvement with the college since his/her student days. During its winter meeting, the Alumni Council submits nominations. A committee composed of the college President, Alumni Association President and the Director of Alumni and Community Relations reviews the nominations and selects a recipient(s). If an alumnus has received either the Shackelford Award or been named to the Wall of Outstanding Alumni in the last five years, he or she is not eligible for this award.

Walter Malcolm Shackelford Distinguished Alumnus Award

Often presented in the fall, the Malcolm Shackelford Distinguished Alumnus Award is given to alumni who have distinguished themselves professionally and brought honor to the college.

The award is named for named for a former professor of education (1958-1972) and academic dean of the college (1972-1982).

Wall of Outstanding Alumni

LaGrange College dedicated its Wall of Outstanding Alumni in fall 1994. Since then, more than 90 college alumni have been honored for distinguishing themselves in their chosen professions and in their communities.

Located on the main floor of historic Smith Hall, the wall is highly visible to students and guests. A companion board to the Wall of Outstanding Alumni display, which recognizes previous honorees, was presented during Homecoming 1998.

Recipients are chosen by the Wall of Outstanding Alumni selection committee, chaired by the President-elect of the Alumni Association. The committee, which meets in May, is composed of current and retired faculty, staff and alumni.
Nominations must be submitted to the Office of Alumni and Community Relations by May 1 of each year and must include supporting material. Any alumnus who has received the Shackelford Distinguished Alumnus Award or the Distinguished Service Alumni Award within the past five years is not eligible to be nominated for the honor.

Recipients are recognized during the Homecoming celebration in the fall.
