Walter Malcolm Shackelford Distinguished Alumnus Award
H. Lamar Loftin
 Loftin earned his undergraduate degree from LaGrange College with a Bachelor of Arts in Business/Economics in 1978 and later graduated from LSU's School of Banking of the South.
A longtime member of the banking profession, Loftin currently lives in Dothan, Ala., where he serves as chairman and CEO of Community Bank & Trust of Southeast Alabama.
During his career, Loftin has been honored with the Synovus All-Star Award, given for dedication and hard work toward achieving corporate goals, and the James H. Blanchard Leadership Award, which is presented to individuals who show the greatest use of leadership and interpersonal skills.
Loftin is a founding board member and treasurer of the Friends of Fort Rucker, and he is a member of the Enterprise Rotary Club and the Wiregrass United Way. This award was named for Dr. Walter Malcolm Shackelford, professor of education (1958-1972) and academic dean (1972-1982) of the College. The award is presented at the Alumni Luncheon on Homecoming to an alumnus who has distinguished himself or herself professionally and brought honor to LaGrange College. The award carries an honorarium - the annual income from the Endowed Fund and is given to the Alumni Association's annual giving program in the recipient's name. The income comes from the proceeds of Dr. Shackelford's book, "LaGrange College 1948-1978, the Waights G. Henry Years."
The Alumni Council during their winter meeting submits nominations. The Alumni Executive Committee selects the recipient from the names submitted by the Alumni Council. An alum cannot receive this award if he or she has received, in the last five years, the Distinguished Service Alumni Award or been named to the Wall of Outstanding Alumni.
