Personal Campus Tour
Why schedule a campus visit?
Just as no two people are exactly alike, no two college campuses are exactly alike,
either. Each has its own unique personality, its own special atmosphere. That's
why, when you're choosing a college, virtual tours on the web just don't cut it.
When it comes to getting a sense of how you fit in with the student community,
the professors and the college as a whole, you just have to be there.
When is the best time to visit?
Weekday visits are best because they allow you to witness the LaGrange College
community in action, allow you to gain a more realistic perspective of
campus life
during the academic week. The Admission office will be happy to
schedule a visit
for you, preferably weekdays at 10:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. Tours are not conducted
on holidays or during semester breaks (fall and spring).
What happens during an official weekday visit to LaGrange College?
Everything begins once you enter
Banks Hall
(building #1 on the map). An informal information session will be conducted by
your
admission counselor
– a few minutes of give-and-take that will allow us to learn more about your personal
goals and aspirations so that we may better personalize the information we share
with you during your visit. Next, a comprehensive 60-minute tour gives you an up-close
look at our historic hilltop facilities as well as recent additions to our 120-acre
campus, including the 45,000 square foot
Lewis Library
, apartment style residence halls and state-of-the-art
athletic facilities
.
Will I be able to sit in on a class or speak with a professor?
We encourage you to attend a class at LaGrange while here, and we'll do our best
to arrange it. With two weeks' notice prior to your visit, we can arrange an appointment
for you to meet with a professor, coach, or
financial aid
officer, subject to their availability.
What about overnight visits?
Overnight visits are scheduled Monday through Thursday during the regular school
year. In the fall, they may be scheduled from mid-September through early December,
and in the spring from mid-February through early May. As a consideration to our
students, no overnight visits are scheduled during final exams, special campus
events, or on nights prior to a holiday or break. If you schedule an overnight
visit and your parents are traveling with you, they may elect to stay in one of
the City of LaGrange's many fine
accommodations
.
What if it is more convenient for me to visit on a weekend?
We can schedule special Saturday morning visits, September through April. Keep
in mind, however, that with no classes or sports practices on Saturdays, classroom
visits or interviews with coaches or faculty are often impossible. Saturday morning
campus visits include a small-group information session and a campus tour that
concludes by noon.
Will I be able to see and do everything in one visit?
Probably not. But who says you have to? There is so much to see and do at LaGrange
College, so many exciting programs to hear about and explore, that many students
schedule a day visit then return for an overnight stay at a later date.
What if my school requires a verification letter?
In an effort to avoid unexcused absences, some high schools require that their
students obtain an official visit verification letter from the Admission office
of the college they are visiting. In support of this effort, LaGrange College policy
does not allow the office to issue verification letters to drop-ins, only to prospective
students who have scheduled an official campus visit. At LaGrange, an official
campus visit is defined as a scheduled appointment with the Admission office that
includes an information session with an admission counselor and a campus tour.
Can I drop in without an appointment?
Drop-ins are welcome during weekday office hours (Monday through Friday from 9:00
a.m. to 4:00 p.m.), but please note that without advance notice, the office cannot
always provide an information session or a campus tour. Due to the need for adequate
preparation time, classroom visits, meetings with coaches or professors or requests
for overnight accommodations are ordinarily not available to drop-ins.
How do I schedule a visit?
Just call the Admission office at (706) 880-8005 on a weekday, from 8:30 a.m.
to 4:30p.m. EST, and ask to schedule a campus visit. Please consider calling two
weeks in advance to schedule an overnight stay (high school seniors, juniors or
transfer students only, please) or to visit on a Saturday morning. At least one
week's notice is preferred for weekday visits. You may also email us at
admission@lagrange.edu
.
Most prospective students visit in the company of family members, but you are
welcome to visit alone or with a friend.
When are LaGrange College open house events?
Each year during the fall and spring semesters we offer
Visitation Days
for prospective students and their families. With more than 200 guests typically
in attendance, these events continue to be a popular way for prospective students
to interact with admission and financial aid staff members, representatives of
academic departments and current students as they learn more about what LaGrange
College has to offer.
