Kim Barber Knoll Chair, Division of Fine and Performing Arts Chair, Department of Theatre Arts Professor
Kim Barber Knoll, Chair of the Department of Theatre Arts, Associate Professor, joined the department in 1995. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from UCLA, a Bachelor of Science in Communications from the University of Tennessee, and is a member of Actors Equity Association. She is also a member of SETC, Omicron Delta Kappa, U.S.I.T.T. and Zeta Tau Alpha. Ms. Barber Knoll came to LC from the University of New Hampshire where she taught Acting I & II, and Oral Interpretation. She lived and worked in New York City for seven years. Ms. Barber Knoll was a resident company member at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park developing InterAct, an In-School Performance Tour with CPIP professional intern company, and has taught master classes at Pennsylvania Stage Company.
Ms. Barber Knoll serves as Artistic Consultant to the Papermill Theatre at the North Country for the Arts in Lincoln, New Hampshire where she was Artistic Director for 10 years and a resident director/actor for 20 years. She was a founding member of the company in 1987. The Papermill produces a summer season of mainstage musicals and a full summer season of original children's theatre folk and fairy tales. She was nominated Summer 2005 for the New Hampshire Governor's Award for Distinguished Arts Leadership
Ms. Barber Knoll was the recipient of numerous awards while attending UCLA, including the prestigious Jack Nicholson Award. She graduated cum laude from the University of Tennessee.
At LaGrange College, Ms. Barber Knoll's courses include Acting, Directing, Voice and Diction, Beginning and Advanced Movement, Musical Theatre, Script Analysis, Period/Styles and Creative Dramatics. Kim is a two-time recipient of the United Methodist Teaching Award given to a faculty member who "inspires the souls of students." A professional actress and director, Ms. Barber Knoll has appeared in over 60 productions and directed more than 40. Representative roles include: Dorothy Brock in 42nd Street, The Witch in Into the Woods, Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd, Lily Pepper in Noel Coward's Red Peppers, Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing, Kate in The Taming of the Shrew, and Lady MacBeth in Macbeth. Directing credits include: She Loves Me, Six Characters in Search of An Author, Absurd Person Singular, Lysistrata, Mrs. California, The World Goes 'Round, Hay Fever, Annie Get Your Gun, She Loves Me, Scenes and Revelations, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Secret Garden, Brigadoon, Big River, Damn Yankees, The Rimers of Eldritch, The Mystery of Edwin Drood and On The Verge.
