Audition Guidelines
Creative Music Technologies
Creative Music Technologies Majors should present three samples of original compositions and/or arrangements on manuscript or any recorded format. Preference is given to those applicants who demonstrate originality, excellent musicianship, technical skill, and diversity in style.
Performance & Church Music Majors
Voice: Present two contrasting art songs sung in the classical style, one in English and one in Italian. Songs should be sung by memory and without a microphone. An accompanist will be provided, or you may bring your own.
Piano & Organ:
Present two contrasting selections chosen from the standard classical repertoire and performed by memory. One selection must be a movement from a multi-movement work. Scales and sight reading may also be requested.
Guitar (Classical or Contemporary): Perform two contrasting pieces and two scales (one major and one minor). Classical guitarists should choose classical selections (Baroque, Romantic, Modern, etc.). Selections for contemporary guitar majors should reflect such styles as blues, rock, bluegrass, steel string, etc.
Percussion: One snare solo or etude, and a second solo for timpani, marimba or xylophone. No work should exceed four minutes. If needed, an accompanist will be provided, or you may bring your own. Standard rudiments as well as sight reading may be requested.
Bachelor of Arts Music
Bachelor of Arts Music Majors should prepare two contrasting selections featuring their performance talent.
