Jon Birkeli, is the Ely R. Callaway Sr. Professor of International Business and Chair of the Department of Business & Economics at LaGrange College.  He received his AB in Economics degree, cum laude, from Lenoir-Rhyne College and his Ph.D. in Economics, with honors, from the University of South Carolina.  After completing his doctorate, the next twenty years were spent in management consulting and international business development.  Geographically, the work spanned from shipyards in Croatia and banking and electronic publishing in Denmark to product distribution in the UK and market development for home furnishing products in the Middle East and Pacific Rim.  He also served as an international business consultant to U.S.-based multinational corporations, focusing on strategic management, value engineering, and operational efficiency. 

At LaGrange College, Professor Birkeli teaches courses in economics, finance, management, and international business, and provides in-service training in finance and counsels managers in private industry on tactical and strategic issues.
