Helping you become a leader in your chosen field of the visual arts—that’s the aim of the Department of Art and Design. Its mission is to provide you with both a liberal and a technical education within a nurturing environment. And that education continues way beyond the classroom. You will frequently visit area museums and galleries. Plus, during each Jan. term you will have the opportunity to travel abroad—seeing art works and architectural monuments firsthand that you studied in class. In 2008, you can travel to Japan.

Since we believe that the visual arts are essential to the growth and well-being of a purposeful society, our mission extends to the community as well. As a result, the department is committed to sponsoring public exhibitions, lectures, travel opportunities, and workshops at the Lamar Dodd Art Center.

All holding a terminal degree—an MFA or a Ph.D.—your faculty will be at once educators and artists or art historians. Professionally active, they exhibit, lecture, and publish both nationally and internationally.
